Amy Tryon has always had horses on her mind, in fact after two years of college she took a break to compete on the east coast and pursue her dream of a career in eventing. Tryon returned to school and became a career EMT and firefighter for 12 years before retiring in June 2006 in order to compete full-time. Tryon still works as a volunteer firefighter.
The 2008 Olympics will be Tryon's second. In 2004, Tryon won team bronze, along with current teammate Karen O'Connor.
Tryon's Olympic mount is Poggio II, a 16-year-old thoroughbred gelding. Poggio II had an uneventful racing career prior to being sold to work as a pack horse in Washington's Cascade mountain range. Tryon then purchased Poggio II after seeing a classified ad in the Seattle Times. Poggio II was also Amy's mount during the Sydney Olympiad.
